Guttman Community College isn’t just a school located in New York City. It’s a school with New York City as its central theme.

As we build a campus community, we’ll have all students start with a core set of classes during your first year. These classes will get you thinking about what it takes to maintain and improve the vibrancy of New York – and how you can be a part of it. They’ll also give you the skills you need to succeed academically through the rest of your college career.

Our curriculum is one thing that sets us apart from other colleges. Our calendar is another. To offer the scheduling flexibility for everyone to succeed in very challenging programs of study, each of our semesters has two sessions:

  • Fall I, for 12 weeks
  • Fall II, for 6 weeks
  • Spring I, for 12 weeks
  • Spring II, for 6 weeks

We like this approach because the six-week sessions allow students who are ready to move ahead the opportunity to do so. Those who need more time to finish what they started in the longer semester can take it without falling far behind.

We require that you commit to attending Guttman Community College full time during your first year. Research shows that students who enroll in college full time graduate at higher rates than students attending part time.

Even with a full course load, you will have scheduling flexibility.

This will be your Fall I schedule:

  • City Seminar I -- an interdisciplinary liberal arts and sciences course centered on New York City
    10.5 hours weekly
  • Ethnographies of Work I -- a course about the working world and your place in it
    4.5 hours per week
  •  Statistics-- a course that covers fundamental concepts of statistics and computational techniques
    6 hours per week

In Spring I, these will be your courses:

You will also take Composition II, part of our core curriculum, during your second year.

The classes you take during Fall II and Spring II will depend on how you’ve done during the 12-week sessions.
